The Challenges They Faced
Like many organisations today, Harrold Jones Services, as an expanding business was seeing a rise in staff presenting with a range of mental health and wellbeing concerns — both work-related and stemming from the natural challenges of life such as bereavement, personal loss, and major life changes. While the leadership team had built a caring culture and were committed to supporting their people, they recognised that they did not have formal training, tools, or structured pathways in place to help them navigate staff distress confidently. Managers often found themselves unsure how best to respond or where to signpost and wanted guidance to ensure that both staff and leaders were supported appropriately. By proactively seeking external expertise, HJS aimed to provide ongoing, sustainable mental health support that would build resilience and capability across the organisation.
The Solution
Harrold Jones Services (HJS) partnered with us to deliver a multi-layered approach to staff mental health and wellbeing that continues to evolve over time.
We provided First Aid for Mental Health training to a cross-section of both managers and staff — ensuring that all departments were represented and equipped to support their colleagues. To date, key staff members have been trained to cover all departments, with recertification completed in October 2024, helping maintain a consistent and informed wellbeing culture across the business.
In addition, HJS has used our Proactive Staff Support Service for the past 5 years. This service offers direct 1:1 coaching, and wellbeing support to all staff and managers, including both preventative support and responsive crisis support when needed. Every staff member is contacted proactively on a monthly basis, and they also have the option to access a dedicated support line at any time.
Our delivery model includes a mix of in-person support, phone-based sessions, and video conferencing, providing flexible access across HJS’s workforce. We also remain available for on-site visits as required.
Reflecting their strong leadership values and genuine commitment to wellbeing, HJS has chosen to extend access to our mental health support service to their third-party partner organisations. This proactive and caring approach ensures that not only their own staff, but also trusted partners in their wider network, can access tailored wellbeing support when needed, a testament to HJS’s inclusive and people-first culture. To date, two third-party partners have taken up this offer.
The Benefits for Staff and The Business
Since introducing First Aid for Mental Health training and our Proactive Staff Support Service, HJS has seen clear and lasting benefits across the organisation.
Staff feel more supported and valued, with many commenting on the reassurance of having a trusted outlet they can turn to. New staff in particular often express surprise and appreciation for having access to such a proactive wellbeing service, something they see as a real mark of the company’s care for its people. Managers’ report increased confidence in addressing mental health conversations and in knowing they have expert support just a call away to assist where needed. This has helped foster a more open and supportive culture across the company.
We’ve observed a noticeable increase in early help-seeking behaviour, with both staff and managers more willing to engage in conversations around mental health and access support before issues escalate. This shift has contributed to individuals getting back on their feet, both at work and personally more quickly after periods of difficulty. Anecdotally, the service has supported improved attendance and recovery outcomes, with one third-party partner employee returning to productive work within three weeks following a period of stress-related leave, a clear example of the value of timely, tailored intervention.
Over time, our partnership with HJS has grown into one built on mutual trust, rapport, and shared values. The consistency of our work together has fostered not only professional respect but genuine friendships and a strong foundation of collaboration, further strengthening the impact of everything we deliver. Overall, HJS continues to demonstrate leadership in this space, embedding a culture of care and proactive mental health support that is felt across the organisation and among its extended partner networks.
Looking Ahead
HJS is committed to continuing its focus on proactive mental health and wellbeing support. The company plans to maintain regular First Aid for Mental Health refresher training for existing staff and extend this training to new team members as the organisation grows.
